The storm in my life
Chapter 3
Kat's POV
“What?” I asked confused.
“You heard me right”, the manager said with a straight face.
“Escort, as in a call girl?”
“If that’s how you want to put it, yeah. Actually it is more
exclusive than that, we have an alliance with one of the big clubs in town, we
provide them with brilliant, smart and beautiful girls like you to give to
their clients”.
God, why me? I thought to myself.
I was at the point of crying, I tried my best to keep the
tears in. I couldn’t hold it in anymore, I just excused myself and ran out.
I broke down under a shed and broke out in tears.
God, why is this happening to me? I gave you my all in
college, I won a lot of souls for you, and you blessed me with a first class
and now I can’t use it. Everyone is rejecting me.
After crying and lamenting I went home and I met my parents
in the kitchen arguing.
I wasn’t ready to face them, but my dad saw the look on my
face and he approached me and gave me a warm hug.
“Everything will be fine honey, you’re a conqueror through
our father in Heaven, don’t give up”, he said to me.
“Dad, everyone rejected me. Eight places dad”, I said crying
and releasing myself from his grip.
My mum looked at me with hurt in her eyes; I knew she felt
like crying too, I didn’t want to see her cry, so I wiped away my tears.
“Yeah dad, I’m a conqueror and a fighter just like you and
mum, I’ll try and make you both proud. Dad I’ll get you that bike you’ve always
longed for”, I said smiling at my dad.
And my mum broke out crying.
I was confused. Did I say something wrong?
“We have to tell her”, my mum said to my dad.
“Don’t!!!” he said to her.
“She has to know”.
“Know what?” I asked worried and confused.
My mum looked at my dad crying and my dad shook his head.
“Your dad has cancer”, she said crying out more.
“What?” I said breaking out in tears.
“Don’t cry Kat, I’m taking care of it and God has got me” he
said forcing a smile.
“Taking care of what?” my mum said crying and yelling.
“You’ve spent a lot on treatments and drug and now you’re
broke. Who is going to pay the hospital bills, who is going to take care of the
family?”
“Mum!!?” I said shocked.
She looked at me and walked out.
“Dad….”
“Don’t worry, she doesn’t mean that. She’s hurt and she
can’t accept the fact that I’m dying”, my dad said.
“Dad you’re not dying”, I said hugging him and crying.
“Kat stop crying, yeah, I won’t die in Jesus’ name”.
“Yeah, you won’t”.
“Now, go and comfort your mum, I don’t want your sister to
come home and see her in tears”, he said.
I left and went to my parent’s room to comfort my mum.
She was sitting on the bed, hugging a pillow and crying.
“Mum”, I said sitting by her and engulfing her in a hug.
“I don’t want to lose him, I can’t”, she said crying out
loud.
“Mum, please stop, you’re hurting him just by crying. Be
strong for him and we’ll all get through this. We’re not going to lose him.
Everything will be taken care of. Trust in God”.
She cried for a while and stopped and I wiped her tears off
with my hands.
“Everything will be fine mum, just get the little money you
make from the school and take care of yourself and the house. I promise to take
care of Dad’s bills” I said to her.
“How?”
“I’ll get a job, I promise”.
She nodded her head.
“And I’m sorry about yesterday, making you worried and
talking back at you”.
“It’s okay Kat”.
We talked for a while and I left to my room.
After taking my bath, I decided to go through my whatsapp
messages and my friends were all happily talking about their new jobs, suitors
and other wonderful things.
I really needed their help, so I typed in our group and told
them that I wasn’t getting any job and that my dad was sick.
And all they could say was aww, trust in God, everything
will be fine; keep on trying, just pray, your dad is fine and blah blah.
Crap!
I got angry and put my phone away. I thought for a while and
drifted to sleep.
~~~~~~~
The next day, I got up and wore a purple fitting dress to
bring out my curves and paired it with my ash heels. I applied a lot of make-up
and combed my hair down.
As I got in front of the company that was about to change my
life. I took a deep breath and walked in.
I got to the manager’s office ignoring the secretary.
He looked up at me in awe.
