The storm in my life
Chapter 1
NB: Some of the images that I’ll be using in this story are not mine.
Katherine’s POV
“Ughh!!” I said out loud when I heard the alarm ring for the
third time.
I stretched my arm and turned it off.
Now waking up seems more like a torture to me.
Who would have thought that life would treat me this way?
I graduated with a first class and I’m working as a
receptionist for my national service.
I’m not criticizing the work, it’s cool and all, but it isn’t
my standards, I have to smile to people and be extra nice, I didn’t study
that!!!
Hopefully today is my last day and I just hope that they
keep me and promote me because I’ve put in my all and I got a first class.
I got out of bed sluggishly and went to bath and dress up.
Today
is my last day and I need to make a good impression and be on my best
behavior, so I wore an ash classy fitting dress and paired it up with my black
stilettos. I combed my hair down and applied mild makeup.
I got out of my room and passed by the kitchen to get an
apple and I met my mum there.
“Wow, you look so gorgeous, what’s the occasion?” my mum
asked.
“Last day at work and last day of my service”, I said
smiling.
She looked at me confused and lifted her left eyebrow.
“I want to make a good impression, as a receptionist, you
have to dress to kill. I want them to keep me and promote me”.
“Okay, you look really nice, I’m sure they’ll keep you. Have
you prayed about it?”
“I’ll pray when I get there”.
“Okay, when you’re coming home please pass by Pastor Robert’s
house and pick your sister, I’ll be dropping her off this morning, she wants to
play with the other kids”.
“Sure, bye”, I said walking out.
I got to my work place and I saw a lady sitting at my mini
office.
“Hello, good morning, wh…..” she said but I interrupted her.
“Excuse me, what are you doing in my chair?” I asked and she
looked at me confused.
“Uhm, I don’t know what you’re talking about, I just
started work today, if you have any confusions, you can contact the manager”.
I walked out angrily and went to see my boss.
I didn’t bother knocking, I just walked in.
“Hey, you’re right on time, I was just about to call you”,
he said.
“Good morning sir, Uhmm, please, I think there has been a
mix up somewhere, I just saw a lady sitting in my chair”.
“No Miss Kerry, there’s no mix up. Your service is over,
aren’t you aware of that?”
“I am, but I didn’t get any notice or any letter”.
“Yeah, I’m really sorry for that, but I just printed the
letter”. He gave me the letter and I read it.
“You’re not keeping me?” I asked with a teary eye.
“I’m sorry Miss Kerry”.
“Can I know why?”
“Uhm.. you…”
“You know what, it’s fine. This isn’t my right place. You
people will just pull me down if I stay here. And guess what It’s your loss not
mine!!” I said storming off.
I felt really down and heart broken,
Didn’t know what to do or where to go.
I passed by a bar and decided to walk in.
I got in and requested for a strong alcoholic drink.
As I was taking the drink a gentleman sat beside me.
“Hey”, he said to me.
I wasn’t in the mood to talk, so I ignored him.
“Guy trouble or work trouble?” he asked.
“The latter, and how did you know?”
“I’m psychic”, he said smiling.
“Oh please”, I said rolling my eyes.
“Oh, looking at the way you’re dressed and this time, it’s
either you’re from work or an early bad breakfast date”.
“Mmmmm”.
“I’m Dwayne by the way”, he said.
“I think I’ll just hold on to my name”.
“Alright, I’m cool with that”, He said smiling.
I had questions to ask. Like what is a fine young gentle man doing at a bar this early, but I kept my question to myself.
“Uhhmm, you better take it easy with that or you’ll end up
spilling all your secrets” He said snickering.
“I don’t keep secrets”.
“Oh really? You sure?”
“Yeah, there’s nothing really interesting about my life that
has to be kept a secret”.
“Mmm, that’s interesting”.
I finished with my drink and requested for more.
Dwayne and I took shots and after a while, everything became
blur and then I was in total darkness…
